Getting new flooring installed isn't something the typical Kodiak, AK, resident does every day. You're bound to have questions about the process, cost, and potential disruption to your home or office routine.
The Great Alaskan Flooring Company has endeavored to provide answers to the most frequently asked questions (FAQ's) we get asked about flooring installation. If we didn't answer your particular question here, please don't hesitate to call our showroom. We are happy to answer any questions you have!
Q. How do I calculate how much flooring I'll need?
A. Using a standard tape measure, take the measurements of the length and width of the room(s). Don't forget to account for foyers, vestibules, and other entry and egress areas, and "pad" your estimate just to be on the safe side. Better yet, have a professional flooring contractor like The Great Alaskan Flooring Company measure your area. We'll be sure to do the job accurately and factor in any potential problems such as uneven corners, odd angles, seam placement, and others.
Q. How much will it cost to re-floor my home or office?
A. That depends on the size of the job, what type of flooring you prefer, whether or not your sub-flooring needs reinforcing, and other factors. One thing is certain, however. Getting an estimate from The Great Alaskan Flooring Company is absolutely free!
Q. I love the look of hardwood or ceramic tile flooring, but can't afford the real thing. Is there a happy medium available?
A. Yes! Laminate and vinyl flooring have come a long way since these products were first introduced to the market. Today, they are able to replicate the look and feel of hardwood and other natural flooring materials, with a much lower price point. Call The Great Alaskan Flooring Company for more information.
Q. How long will it take The Great Alaskan Flooring Company to install my new floors?
A. It varies depending on the size of the area to be covered, and the type of floor we install. The typical Kodiak, AK, home can be re-carpeted in one day. If you go with laminate flooring, you'll need to let the product acclimate for 48 hours before you install it, but the actual installation process is fairly quick. If you're installing ceramic tile in a commercial area, such as an employee break room or washroom, 2-3 days is standard for prepping the surface, laying the tile, and allowing the grout to cure.
Q. I have pets and active kids. What would be the best type of flooring for my household?
A. While you would probably want to choose hard flooring over carpeting, it still warrants some consideration depending on your situation. For example, while a dog's nails cannot scratch hardwood, repeated exposure to bodily fluids from an "accident prone" pet can result in visible and permanent damage. Vinyl and laminate flooring are typically easier to clean, but may prove too slippery for some dogs to navigate. The Great Alaskan Flooring Company would be happy to consult with you, with no pressure to commit, on the best choice of flooring for your family!
Q. We live in one of the more remote villages on Kodiak Island. Can The Great Alaskan Flooring Company still help us?
A. Absolutely. Our company is Native owned, and happily services homes and businesses in the Bush.
